Nancy Jo Adams

My name is Nancy Jo Adams, a freelance writer, columnist, dedicated blogger, avid huntress and founder of Ladies in Camo. I am also content strategist for several companies in the industry. Shortly after I was introduced to hunting by my husband in 2006, I started attending a few women's events in efforts of learning everything I could about the sport. I quickly learned that you can only take Archery 101 and Shotgunning 101 a couple times before you are bored with it. So I set out looking for hunts that I could attend with other women.

I did find a few hunts but they were mostly "fund" driven events which meant along with that hunt came games and auctions in hopes of raising money for a certain organization. Which is definitely a great cause, but it did not take long for me to get bored with those events as well--I wanted to HUNT. I wanted the same experience any hunter would get if they booked a hunt with an outfitter....great food, good fellowship and plenty of hunting. There are a few organizations out there offering hunts but they are way out of my price range. Finally, I decided if I couldn't find any outfitters willing to offer quality economical hunts, I would organize a few myself.

My first hunt was in December 2007 at Buckhorn Creek Lodge where I hosted 5 women on a whitetail hunt. One of those women was Tammy Kent who had coined the name Ladies in Camo. I felt so connected to the name that I eventually bought the licensing and domain from her. I knew eventually I would follow through with my dreams of organizing affordable hunts for women and providing them an encouraging, ethical and mentoring atmosphere to enjoy those hunts in while instilling the importance of conservation. I have always had an inquisitive nature and I feel it is important to share the things that I learn with others in hopes that they, too, are desiring to learn all they can.

Launching the Ladies in Camo website brought all my goals to fruition and having the opportunity to do so with other ladies and men that I have been fortunate enough to cross paths with on this journey in the outdoors is remarkable. I am thankful to all those who support and advocate women in the sport of hunting, those that mentor women hunters and to those outfitters who are willing to do all they can to make these hunts, not only a joy to attend, but also affordable. I hope to share hunting camp, a good tale and a toasty fire with you somewhere down the road.
