This spring my husband and I made a trip to Saskatchewan to hunt black bear with a couple of friends we met through twitter. This was the first time we hunted away from our area, and I was excited but nervous…mainly because we had never met the guys face to face. We didn’t know if they were axe murderers or not!

We drove 12+ hours there and had a lot of fun. We spent 6 days hunting and staying in a camp. For the first few days Kyle and I hunted together in the same stands and the guys hunted together in one of the other ones. The last few days we split up and we hunted with each of the guys for a day or so.
You know those videos you see circulating around social media of bears climbing up a hunters tree? Well I was freaked out about that happening and was told not to worry that the 2 guys have never had it happen. They lied. I had 6 bears come up my tree and one was a big boar. We also had a nasty sow try charging up the tree at us.
Kyle managed to cut his tag on a nice pope and young bear on the 4th day. I took a shot at the big boar that had come up the tree and smelled the bottom of my boots. But the tree stand was a little tall for me and my cam made contact with it when I released, so my arrow completely missed. Thankfully my bow was ok and i would be able to hunt the last 2 days. That sow scared me enough that I chose a different stand to hunt in the next day, and that was a dud. We didn’t see a single bear.

So the last day I went back to that same stand that had the boar I missed and the mean sow. The only bear we had come in was a young sow and she was in heat. She put on quite the show for Warren and I. She was moaning and rubbing herself with a cloth she found on the ground right at the foot of our ladder. Warren and I were laughing so hard and she didn’t care, it seemed like she enjoyed the attention.
So even though I had tag soup it was a wonderful week and had a lot of fun. The show that little sow put on was a great ending to our week in Saskatchewan.
