To many of us, the purchase of a gun may begin with months of saving up those pennies.  Or to others, a gun may represent an inheritance – a family tradition of passing gun ownership from generation to generation. With that in mind, when something comes on the market that will protect that cherished gun and be user-friendly, I want  to check it out. Recently I was able to field test the GunSlicker by Alpine Products. As the owner of a brand new muzzleloader, I wanted to find a product to help keep my new gun in top condition for many years to come. I ran the GunSlicker through its paces and found it doesn’t disappoint.

At first glance, you will notice how neatly the gun case fits inside the waterproof carry bag.I pulled the entire slicker out and then easily repacked it with no problems.Considering how small the carry bag is, this was a pleasant surprise. The other great thing about the carry bag is that it is firmly attached to the GunSlicker itself.

I find that I can never have enough pockets when hunting and I doubt I’m alone in this. Alpine Innovations has addressed this issue with a handy clip attached to the carry bag easily allowing you to hook this right onto your backpack or belt loop. No need for shoving it in a pocket only to find out later it’s lost in the woods.

I also listened to how quiet this product could be. Sound control in the woods is a must. A gun cover needs to be discreet and silent in the field so I put the GunSlicker through a workout. First of all, I put on all of my winter camo clothing. In order to field test this product, I needed to simulate a real hunting situation. I then extracted the slicker from the attached carry bag and crumpled it up several times. I then secured the GunSlicker around my muzzleloader and scope, snugged up the drawstring at both ends, put the gunsling on my back and walked.Taking my muzzleloader gun off my back, I totally unwrapped the Gunslicker. Throughout all of these maneuvers, the GunSlicker was quiet and effortless. It wasn’t bulky or impeded my ability to get the gun up and be ready to shoot. As I walked with the gun in the GunSlicker, there was no swishy noise that can sometimes be associated with water repellant fabric. This product definitely delivers the quiet factor.

I decided to try this out on a much smaller gun-my daughter’s youth rifle. My main concern was how GunSlicker fit on a smaller gun and if the fabric would bunch up. The GunSlicker fit easily around the gun. Using the toggles I cinched up the case around the smaller rifle without it feeling bulky or awkward.

Lastly, I took the GunSlicker outside and sprayed it down with the mist from a water bottle. The water immediately beaded up and never soaked into the fabric. A quick flick of my finger, the water funneled off and I was able to extract my gun.

Colors available are Woodlands Camo or Black. Black could be used nicely in a ground blind situation. The Woodlands Camo is a great option for tree stand hunting. The GunSlicker fits rifles and shotguns up to 56” with or without a scope.
